EUROPAN 13

Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany
Team: Massimo Galeotti, Marco Plazzogna

Schwäbisch Gmünd was originally a village in the woods with pitched roof houses among the trees, gardens, small shops and public spaces. The project chiefly rethinks this urban area that is currently lacking a connection between its parts. By means of five specific architectonical actions focused on just as many city areas, the project wants to break the stiff geometrical scheme created by the construction of new buildings, by redesigning the empty spaces that have been left.

The second objective is the complete removal of the Oberbettringer Straße barrier, which divides the city into two parts (north and south), and the creation of a city gate.
