BOLTIERE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Boltiere, Italy
Team: Massimo Galeotti, Marco Plazzogna, Elisa Rizzato, Michele Del Vesco, Andrea Pasqua, Riccardo Zottarel

The new addition to the primary school of Boltiere develops entirely on the ground floor. This choice comes from a careful analysis of the distributive possibilities of the new area in relation to the lot and the existing structure. The new multifunctional hall had to be independent from the main building, and the need to avoid the creation of a new lift shaft has led us to abandon the idea of incorporating the hall into the basement or the first floor: indeed, both the solutions would have entailed the construction of a big ramp to grant the accessibility for the disabled. The new body is made up of two perpendicular wings, with the main entrance located at their intersection. The new building connects perpendicularly to the existing one on the south-eastern part of the entrance, thus widening the area dedicated to the atrium. Moreover, the latter is easily separable from the existing building and can become the foyer of the multifunctional hall, allowing its use also when the school is closed. The addition is totally independent from the existing building and its construction does not require any demolition work of existing structures.
